Innovations in laser technology now allow us to address a variety of dermatological conditions in a manner that is safe, efficient, minimally discomforting and highly effective. At MetroDerm, P.C. we use laser treatments for:
Skin Resurfacing and Rejuvenation
Laser resurfacing can improve the appearance of skin by treating minor skin flaws. It can decrease the appearance of lines and improve the complexion in patients with scars and sun damage. MetroDerm, P.C. uses two lasers for skin rejuvenation:
- The Fractional CO2 Laser delivers all the benefits of ablative laser resurfacing without the harsh side effects typically experienced with CO2 lasers, as it vaporizes the tissue in small areas, leaving surrounding areas uninjured. The laser’s light energy encourages natural collagen production and decreases the appearance of wrinkles. More than one treatment is usually necessary to achieve optimal results. Your doctor will be able to provide an estimate for the number of treatments you may need. Patients can receive this laser treatment at the Johnson Ferry/Perimeter location.
- The Erbium-YAG Laser removes the upper layers of skin so that, upon healing, wrinkles are diminished. Patients who are treated with this laser often experience more rapid healing, but less dramatic results than those who opt for the Fractional CO2 laser. Several treatments (three to five) are usually required to achieve optimal results. Your doctor will be able to provide an estimate for the number of treatments you need. Patients can receive this laser treatment at the Johnson Ferry/Perimeter and Paulding/West Cobb locations.
Laser Hair Removal
Patients can remove unwanted hair permanently and quickly with laser hair removal.
The results achieved with laser hair removal far exceed those achieved with electrolysis, and certainly exceed any results one can accomplish with waxing or shaving. Any discomfort patients experience with laser hair removal is minimal and momentary.
MetroDerm, P.C. uses the Lyra laser system, which delivers light to the base of the hair follicles, destroying them permanently. As with all hair lasers, the Lyra laser targets the dark pigment of the hair follicle. Therefore, hair lasers will help remove dark hairs but not light hairs. As not all hair follicles are in a growth cycle at the same time, follow-up treatments to reach all hair follicles are typically required. The Lyra laser is currently the best available technology for laser hair removal.
The Lyra Laser System has been FDA approved for use on all skin types. Because of the wavelength of laser utilized by the Lyra laser, this laser can be safely used on darker skin types. Men and women can use laser treatments to remove hair on the upper lip, neck, face, arms, underarms, bikini area, legs and back.
This Lyra laser is located at the Johnson Ferry/Perimeter location.
Treatment of Brown Spots
Brown spots, which commonly arise on the face and hands during middle age, can be treated safely and effectively (and often in just one treatment) with a Q YAG laser. This laser targets each individual spot and causes the brown pigment to slough off the skin leaving normal-colored skin in its place. Minor irritation following treatment is common and it usually takes one to two weeks for the darker pigmentation to peel away. Patients can receive this treatment at the Johnson Ferry/Perimeter location.
IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments, often referred to as photofacials or photorejuvenation, can also be used to lighten brown spots. Patients who opt for IPL to treat their brown spots will likely require multiple treatments, but will experience less irritation following treatment than those who opt to use the Q YAG laser.
Your doctor will talk you through selecting the treatment that best suits your needs. Patients can receive this treatment at the Paulding/West Cobb location.
Treatment of Red Spots and Facial Veins
Another condition our patients often want to treat is the removal of red spots and facial veins. This is a common finding in patients with Rosacea.
The physicians at MetroDerm, P.C. will evaluate your skin to determine whether treatment with IPL or the Gemini and KTP lasers is most appropriate.
The Gemini and KTP lasers are commonly used to treat broken blood vessels and vascular lesions. Patients often see results within four to six weeks following treatment with the Gemini and KTP lasers. Typically two treatments are all that is required to achieve significant improvement in broken blood vessels and patients experience only mild discomfort during the brief procedure. These lasers are located at the Johnson Ferry/Perimeter location.
Laser tattoo removal is one of the safest and most effective tattoo removal treatments available today. Though several treatments are required and the difficulty of removal depends on a variety of factors including the age, location, depth and colors of the tattoo, lasers have made it possible to remove tattoos for any number of reasons.
The Q YAG laser used for tattoo removal of black pigment may cause some skin irritation, light bleeding and blistering of the area, but sensitivity should last only a few days. Three to six treatments are usually needed to remove your tattoo. These treatments are spaced at least six weeks apart. Your doctor will provide specific instructions for you to follow after each treatment. This laser is located at the Johnson Ferry/Perimeter location.
