Dermatopathology encompasses the study and diagnosis of skin diseases at the microscopic level. Dermatopathologists work closely with dermatologists to diagnose conditions that might not be recognizable based on appearance and behavior alone. In these cases, a skin biopsy is taken and examined under a microscope by a dermatopathologist who is able to identify the condition so it can be treated appropriately.
MetroDerm, P.C. is fortunate to have a dermatopathologist and a pathologist as part of its full-time staff. Dermatopathologists and pathologists are not part of all dermatology practices. In fact, MetroDerm, P.C. is one of just a few dermatology practices in Atlanta that offers this unique benefit in-house to its patients.
As microscopic examination of cells is a critical part of diagnosing skin cancer and other skin disorders, MetroDerm’s dermatopathologist, Dr. Adar Berghoff, and pathologist, Dr. Dino Anastasiades, work closely with all of our dermatologists and Mohs surgeons.
